You can call her a lot of things, but husband stealer is not one of them: “I don’t know what you’re talking about!” cries Nicollette Sheridan concerning rumors that she will be stealing one very married man on Wisteria Lane during February sweeps. Her vampy Edie of “Desperate Housewives” has been known for poaching.
“Now people will get the wrong idea. Edie is not evil,” Sheridan says. “She just has fewer boundaries than other women.”
As for the character of Susan, played by Teri Hatcher, she also will remain fair game. “Edie will never leave Susan alone,” Sheridan says. “But really, Susan is the one who does all the dreadful things. She has too many men. She lies. She burned down my house! Did I say that she lies?
“Edie is a straight shooter,” Sheridan says. “She’s not a backstabber.” She pauses and adds, “She’s also a snappy dresser.”
Much like her character, Sheridan says what’s on her mind. Here’s what she had to get off her chest about her life, movies and her engagement to Michael Bolton.
Q: Tell us about February sweeps on Wisteria Lane.
A: There is lots of fun stuff in store. Edie did already have her ultimate revenge on Susan when she got Mike. Then she realized that he wasn’t what she signed up for … [he's] a jailbird. At least she left him. It was empowering.
Q: Will Edie ever find true love or should she resort to eHarmony.com?
A: Yes, I think she needs a great guy. I just worry that the audience would get bored if Edie was settled and happy. So it’s probably not in the cards. I can tell you that that there is this rumor Edie is going to cause a huge stir on Wisteria Lane by getting involved with a certain man.
Q: Of course, you found the love of your life — again. You broke up with Michael Bolton years ago and then reunited. How’d that happen?
A: First, let me say that Michael is such an amazing man and I have so much respect for him. We did get back together, which should prove to everyone in love that you can never say never. Michael and I were always close even throughout our hiatus.
Q: What does he bring to your life?
A: We’re the loves of each other’s lives. He brings everything to my life. Michael is a very grounded person, very smart and he constantly amuses me. He also pushes me to be more than I thought I could be. I think he would say the same thing about me. If you feel that way about someone, one thing is clear: It’s the real deal.
Q: Now, we need to pry into your wedding details.
A: [Laughing] We have no date! We’re so consumed by our careers. And I don’t want to rush this beautiful time in my life. It would be nice to just enjoy the process of falling in love again and being engaged. Why rush through your life and the happy times? You don’t have to do that.
Q: Are you thinking about having kids like your co-star, a very-pregnant-with-twins Marcia Cross?
A: Having children is personal, so I think we’ll keep that to ourselves.
Q: You starred in “Code Name: The Cleaner” with Cedric the Entertainer. Is he Edie’s kind of guy?
A: Cedric is so wonderful. A big, fun teddy bear. I love that he’s not a tortured comedian, but a lighthearted man. I’m always sad when a movie wraps, but it was a crazy time in my life when I was shooting.
